Irish Cancer Society Announce €225,000 Investment to fund Innovative Research Role with AICRI
AICRI is delighted to announce a significant new partnership with the Irish Cancer Society. This collaboration, involving a €225,000 investment over three years, aims to advance collaborative cancer research across the island of Ireland.
This investment will fund the newly established role of the Irish Cancer Society AICRI Research Analyst, awarded to Shashank Srinivas. His work will include producing a detailed report on the cancer research landscape across Ireland and providing recommendations for fostering synergies between research communities north and south of the border. The goal is to unify researchers and reduce fragmentation in cancer research efforts across the island of Ireland.
Dr. Claire Kilty, Head of Research at the Irish Cancer Society, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership: “We are thrilled to join forces with AICRI in this innovative research initiative. We are delighted that Shashank Srinivas is on board with the AICRI team and look forward to leveraging his insights into the cancer research landscape. This crucial investment is made possible by the unwavering support of our dedicated fundraisers and volunteers.”
Professor William Gallagher, Full Professor of Cancer Biology at University College Dublin, Scientific Director at St. Vincent’s-UCD Cancer Centre, and Co-Lead of AICRI, thanked the Irish Cancer Society for their investment: “The challenges facing cancer research in Ireland require significant, targeted investments like this one to drive future improvements. Through AICRI, we have ambitious plans for cancer research across Ireland, and today’s announcement is a key step towards realising those ambitions.”
Professor Mark Lawler, Professor of Digital Health at Queen’s University Belfast and Co-Lead of AICRI, emphasised the importance of data-driven decisions: “It is critical that we prioritise cancer research based on data intelligence. This investment by the Irish Cancer Society will provide the essential evidence needed for our all-island approach to deliver patient-centric, high-quality cancer research. Remember – Cancer Knows No Borders, and neither should we.”
Shashank Srinivas, the newly appointed Irish Cancer Society AICRI Research Analyst, shared his enthusiasm for the role: “I am honoured to be part of the AICRI team through this funding from the Irish Cancer Society. This investment will facilitate a long-term North-South partnership with a shared mission to achieve significant improvements in cancer research for the benefit of patients.
“Our goal is to analyse trends in the cancer research landscape across Ireland, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. This collaboration will provide evidence-based recommendations to inform research strategy and policy, significantly advancing our understanding and approach to cancer research, and ensuring we address critical needs and maximise opportunities for all cancer patients on the island.”
This partnership marks a significant step forward in the fight against cancer in Ireland, promising to bring about meaningful advancements in research and patient care.
