AICRI’s Productive Outreach Activities in New York

In late February 2023, a special AICRI networking event called ‘US Influence on the Good Friday Agreement: Cancer Research Across Borders’, took place in New York Irish Center, Long Island City. The event was organised by AICRI with the support of the Ireland America Science Forum, University College Dublin Alumni, Queen's University Belfast Alumni and the Consulate General of Ireland, New York.

L-R Dr Róisín O'Cearbhaill (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center) , Mr Ciaran Briscoe (AICRI and North East Cancer Research & Education Trust), Ms Andrea Haughian (Invest Northern Ireland), Prof Mark Lawler (Queen’s University Belfast and Co-Lead, AICRI), Dr John Greally (Albert Einstein College of Medicine & Montefiore Medical Centre), Prof Geraldine McGinty (Weill Cornell Medicine) and Mr Ted Smyth (UCD Clinton Institute).

Prof. William Gallagher (UCD Conway Institute and Co-Lead, AICRI), participated remotely in this event.

The trip also included a visit to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and meetings with key luminaries in the field, such as Dr. Larry Norton.

Following the visit to New York, the Irish Central, New York, published an article by Prof Mark Lawler (QUB) and Prof William (Liam) Gallagher (UCD) which highlighted the crucial role that the Good Friday Agreement has played in supporting cancer research on the island of Ireland.
